Hold On by Tom Waits:
His stuff is usually abrasive, especially vocally, but this is as pure as he gets. And what a beautiful song. Hold on, people!
#Last Week
Okay, so what was last week? Oh yeah, finishing the outline to Fenchurch 10. And doing a new series bible for Marshall 5-7.
Well, one of them got done. Finished the synopsis to Fenchurch 10, then did two rounds of edits on that to tighten everything up. I’d initially planned to include Scott Cullen in this book, the final in the series, to tighten things up. But I had to let him go, so there’s no Cullen in this one, but it does include at least one cameo from my other books (not Marshall! Never Marshall!), including DS Olivia Blackman from Lost Cause. Remember that? Remember her? Anyway, that’s all done and I’ve even managed to write the prologue to it today. So one chapter down, another forty left to do.
As for the series bible, I did a bit of work on the first book of that, just tightening up the overall plot of an old story I plan to use for book 5. Taking shape, that’s for sure, but I need to layer in the character stuff, especially all the fall-out from Marshall 4, which is all locked down now. I’ll spend a bit of time over the next week or so doing some more to that.
So what else did I do? Well, I’ve been feeling a bit exhausted and jaded from the old back-to-back police procedurals, so I’ve dusted off my old ideas list. A fair few things in there I’ve dipped in and out of over the last few years but haven’t committed to writing (it’s where Marshall started life), so it’s good to have a little dip back in and see what tickles my fancy, if anything. Developed a couple of newer ideas I’ve liked, but whether I’ll ever get around to writing them... let’s just see!
Next Week
Wee bit of travel in the next two weeks, so progress might be limited but I’ll be firing on with Fenchurch 10, using the old “edit yesterday, write today” tick-tock method that’s worked well for the last four or five books (!). Aiming to get through 3 chapters a day, which is achievable and not pushing me too hard. Gives me time to focus on other things in the afternoons too, so I’m not thrashing myself silly!
Anyway that’s more than enough of that.
Cheers,
Ed
