Last week
Busy one!
Went through the outline for WHERE OUR BODIES LIE, which is book two of the DI Rob Marshall series. The plot was pretty fine, no real issues there, but I wanted to flesh out the character stuff, especially with your new pal, Shunty AKA DS Rakesh Siyal. He’s got a much bigger role in this one, picking up a lot on FALSE START. My only concern with the book is it’s going to be another monster, but that’s all fine.
One of the big lessons I learned from book 1 was having spent a lot of time developing the outline made it much easier to write and I was much more pleased with the end result. Hopefully this will be the same! I’ll be doing the same with book three – do a rough outline, then revise it once I’ve edited the book. Seems to work.
Finished off with copy edits on THE TURNING OF OUR BONES, which John turned around mercifully quickly. It’s on track to be proofed well in advance of when the audiobook narrator needs it. Only thing was, there were a couple of timeline issues. I was a bit lazy with a plot point so I spent a chunk of time tidying that up and it’s a lot better now. And less moustache twirly.
This week
A quiet one. Going to get stuck into writing WHERE OUR BODIES LIE, so it’ll be one of those months or so. Just head down and getting on with it. A bit of travel in there, so it’ll be a bit choppy, but hope to get it all done and dusted by Xmas – feels like it’s in a good shape. Only concern is that the prologue might have to be split off and given away as a freebie to the mailing list, which might make things a bit trickier. Anyway, I’ll see how it all pans out as I do it.
I finally got my finger out and set up the launch event for Fenchurch 9, which is out with my advance reader team now. 30th November 2022 at 19:30. You can sign up to watch it here:
Obviously, a plate of haggis, neaps and tatties is recommended as it’s St Andrew’s Day – I’m sure they would’ve eaten haggis in ancient Galilee and Achaia.
I’ll be giving away signed hardbacks of the Fenchurch books and the first Marshall one to anyone who’s signed up to the mailing list and entered the competition:

Anyway, that’s quite enough from me. Have a great week.
Cheers,
Ed
Best pull my finger out 😳😅
